Our Story

On August 27, 2026, President Trump signed an executive order directing U.S. federal agencies to begin referring to Lake Ontario as "Lake America."

We read the news the next morning from Kelowna, British Columbia — about as far from Lake Ontario as you can get and still call yourself Canadian. Our reaction was pretty simple:

It's Lake Ontario. Always has been. Still is.

So instead of just posting about it, we built something. Within about 24 hours, itslakeontario.ca was live — a small Canadian-owned brand built around one idea: some things don't get renamed by executive order.

This isn't protest merchandise, and it's not meant to stop mattering the day this story leaves the news. Lake Ontario has carried its name for centuries — through Indigenous history, through the communities built on its shores, through generations of Canadians who've swum in it, sailed it, and called it home. That doesn't change because of a signature in Washington.

We're a small operation — currently working with a print-on-demand partner to get product out fast while we build toward a more permanent lineup. We're upfront about that: we don't claim anything is "Made in Canada" unless it genuinely is, and we'll tell you clearly when that changes.

What we can tell you is this: the business is Canadian-owned, based in Kelowna, BC, and built by people who think some things — a name, a lake, a country's history — are worth standing behind.

It's Lake Ontario. Pass it on. 🇨🇦
